Violet Crown Book Award Finalist!

I just received the news this week that Grace Falling Like Rain is one of four finalists in the Writers' League of Texas' Violet Crown Book Award for Fiction. http://www.writersleague.org/contests/vca.html The winners and finalists have been asked to speak on a panel at the Texas Book Festival in Austin, Texas, on Saturday, November 3rd. The event will takeplace in Capitol Extension room E2.030 from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. For directions to the event and a map of the capitol rooms, see http://www.texasbookfestival.org/

I am so excited and so honored to be a part of this group (does this sound like an Academy Awards speech?). The main concern that I have about attending this Book Festival event is when speaking in public, one cannot edit and revise mid-sentence. I can be really witty if given enough time and thought and the opportunity for multiple revisions on a computer screen, but speaking off the top of my head and thinking on my feet? Oh dear. An old saying that my dad taught me keeps coming to mind: Tis better to be silent and thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt. I hope I remember that on November 3rd.

If you haven't had a chance to read the book, I hope you'll check with your library to see if they have it, and if they don't, request it. Librarians have mountains of catalogs to wade through competing for a slice of their collection development funds and hundreds, if not thousands of reviews to read, and they appreciate reader recommendations of good books to add to the library's collection. Most libraries' book budgets are never as big as they'd like, so they have to be selective. And if you can't wait for the library copy, you can always get the books through my web site or Barnes & Noble online and Amazon.com.

And don't forget the sequel, Mercy's Face, which a number of readers have told me they have enjoyed even more than the first book. I hope to have the third book in the series, Torn Asunder, available in the spring.

Happy Reading!!
